Ten loads of laundry would take just over 12 hours to complete. That is a lot of time spent in a damp and dreary space. Pictured here is a laundry space brightened up with tinted DRYLOK Extreme Masonry Waterproofer. The main wall was tinted to Buttercup and the accents were tinted to Mint Green. Add some stock cabinets and metal racking which are available at any hardware store to make laundry duty a little easier.
If you have a hobby such as scrap booking, sewing, painting, etc. you know how much room all of the things you need take up. Even if you have a spare room in the house, you will eventually move your way into a corner with no room to work.
If you have a basement, even if it has cement or block walls, you can create a customized space just for your crafts. The first thing to do is to make sure the space is dry by applying DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer. Here is a block basement wall painted half in Extreme Latex DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer tinted to Beige and half in Designer DRYLOK Natural Sand with Brownstone Specks. Now the space is waterproofed as well as decorative. Next install flooring of your choice; we installed a floating floor that resembles real wood to warm the space up a bit. Next, it is important to have plenty of storage space located in convenient spots so you stay organized.
It is simple and easy to fashion a space away from your living area so you can escape and create.
It is simple to take your unfinished basement and turn it into a worry free, kid friendly area. You can create a space that is all for the kids without worrying about the mess or the delicate fixtures. Remember when decorating for kids bright, cheerful colors make it exciting and a place they will want to play in. You may think a block wall is far from inviting, but with the right color combination and decorating you can really make it work.
Pictured here is Extreme DRYLOK tinted to blue with professional stencils (bought online) painted in Designer DRYLOK Misty Gray with Midnight Specks. Add some inexpensive plastic shelves for storage, kid friendly furniture and removable flooring of your choice and you have a nice and dry, sizable space for your children to interact and play.
A very useful and sometimes profitable use of your basement is a basement workshop. Think of all the items you wouldn’t have to purchase if you had the space to create a project yourself. A basement space is ideal for project specific spaces because you don’t have to worry about putting away the tools, supplies and other materials you are working with and you don’t have to worry about traveling back and forth to a garage or backyard in bad weather.
This workshop was created in an unfinished basement space with block walls being painted in DRYLOK Extreme Masonry Wateproofer in Platinum and Designer DRYLOK in Misty Gray with Midnight Specks. Using DRYLOK as a decorative finish is a smart way to decorate and waterproof at the same time, keeping your tools and supplies dry and rustproof. The homemade stencils are a decorative touch as well as a way to designate different work areas. The floor was painted in DRYLOK Latex Concrete Floor Paint (Soft Gray). The light floor color makes it easy to find fallen objects and the paint makes it easy to keep clean. Many of the work areas are on rollers so you can move the equipment around the workshop with ease. Now you just have to decide which project to tackle first.
Basement Home Gym
When contemplating creating a home gym, there are a number of issues you must consider.
First, it is important to note the amount of space the equipment will take up. Especially when you factor the space needed to walk around the equipment. At this point you might realize the only space you have to spare is in the basement.
Second, you must make sure the space is dry to keep from rusting your costly gym equipment. DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer is the perfect solution.
Third, when choosing a color scheme, remember you are going to spend a regular amount of time here, so you should love it. Pictured is a semi-finished basement painted in Designer DRYLOK Misty Gray with Midnight Specks and Extreme DRYLOK tinted to Slate Blue. Pick colors that will keep you motivated to go that extra mile. For a little inspiration, we painted this “Yes I Can” mural on the wall using homemade stencils.
A temporary rug, which can be cut and purchased at your local home improvement store, is a great choice to make future design or renovation changes a breeze. Rubber floor pads and mats are also a great choice for durability and comfort and are also readily available in most home improvement stores.
If you have an unused basement, what are you waiting for? Most people would die for an area to watch the game, play pool, or just hang with their friends. We know budgets are tight, but you don’t have to spend a lot to get a great looking, usable space. First make sure the space is dry by applying two coats of DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer tinted to any color you desire. Here we used DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer tinted to Beige and for a little added pizazz we mixed in some accents painted with Designer DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer in Natural Sand with Brownstone Specks. We built a bar with extra foundation blocks and painted with the same color scheme. Next we added items for our Man Cave, but you can create any feel you would like with affordable accent pieces. Now get the guest list ready, it’s time to party.
You can make a lasting impression and increase the curb appeal of your home by matching your concrete foundation to the siding of your home. Nothing is more unappealing than a bare masonry or chipped foundation wall peeking through that costly landscape. When painted the foundation, you can either match the foundation or pick a contrasting color that compliments the rest of the home’s exterior. You can match the color of the trim, shutter or roof rather than the siding. It best to use a paint that is formulated for concrete and masonry surfaces and for added protection you can use DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer which will beautify and waterproof at the same time. Here is a soft grade siding pared with Designer DRYLOK Misty Gray with Midnight Specks. The specks in the waterproofer added just enough decorative finish for this homeowner without detracting from other elements of the home. Designer DRYLOK comes in Natural Sand with Brownstone Specks and Misty Gray with Midnight Specks to match the most popular siding colors on the market.
