Specific problems need specific solutions. The construction team from Frankel Development learned when selecting waterproofing products for their Ocean One Residential Development in Juno Beach, FL. The good news is that a consultant recommended DRYLOK® Extreme Concrete and Masonry Waterproofer – one product that provided several solutions.
The first challenge was retaining walls. This specific property required retaining walls and wall/planter combinations around the entire property. The retaining walls act as dividers and security fences around the property, a soil retention system, and an attractive backdrop for almost all the homes in the development.
The retaining walls are CMU block construction. They need to be protected from the positive side – to hold water out (like an exterior foundation) while also protecting from the negative side – to hold water in (like a planter). Both applications would experience a level of hydrostatic pressure. Plus, the retaining walls would be subject to high levels of wind-driven rain because of the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, the walls must be attractive with a long-lasting bright white finish.

“The DRYLOK® Extreme product was the perfect solution for the retaining walls, so we began to use DRYLOK® on other areas of the new homes where we wanted a higher level of protection,” explained Cris Panebianco, the Project manager for Frankel. “We began with the open balcony walls and the eyebrows and went from there.”
DRYLOK® Extreme brought a beautiful and weather-resistant finish to many cement stucco-applied areas of the homes. The product provided a waterproof solution with a 15-year waterproof warranty.
